Play-Based curriculum

Play-Based Curriculum

At Bluebell Kids Daycare & Preschool, our program is thoughtfully planned to meet the interests, abilities, and developmental needs of each age group. Children learn through play in a nurturing environment that supports growth across all areas of development.

Our varied indoor and outdoor activities encourage exploration in:

  • art and music
  • gross and fine motor development
  • cognitive and early problem-solving skills
  • science and discovery
  • social relationships and communication

Why Play-Based Learning

The staff at Bluebell Kids believes that a play-based curriculum is the most appropriate and effective approach to early learning. Through spontaneous, voluntary, and self-directed play, children gain a deeper understanding of the world around them — cognitively, physically, socially, and emotionally.

Although play may appear simple, for children it is serious work. Play is how children:

  • experiment and problem-solve
  • practice social skills
  • build independence and confidence
  • develop creativity and imagination

At Bluebell Kids, we intentionally design an environment that supports and enhances children’s play, while also guiding parents in ways to actively engage with their children and honor each child’s unique skills and abilities.

Research-Based Approach

“Play is related to greater creativity and imagination and even to higher reading levels and IQ scores. Based on research evidence, a new equation is in order:

PLAY = LEARNING.”

— Einstein Never Used Flash Cards, Hirsh-Pasek & Golinkoff

“Play is at the core of children’s learning. Through play, children develop and practice skills, learn how the world works, and build knowledge and understanding. To be considered play, activities must be self-chosen and self-directed. Children who are experienced at play are creative, confident, and self-motivated learners.”

— Becoming the Parent You Want to Be, Davis & Keyser
